Join the ALA Copyright, Legislation, Education and Advocacy Network (CLEAN) for a free CopyTalk webinar at 2 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, September 5.
This edition of CopyTalk will feature a legislative update presented by Jonathan Band, legislative counsel for ALA. The Judiciary Committees in Congress have their hands full with many issues (immigration, for one), but they still manage to squeeze in some intellectual property issues, including copyright.
Band will review the copyright-related activities in the 116th Congress, particularly the Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement (CASE) Act (S. 1273), which would establish a copyright small claims tribunal in the U.S. Copyright Office and Copyright Office Modernization roundtables in the Senate Judiciary Intellectual Property Subcommittee. Yes, making the U.S. Copyright Office independent from the Library of Congress is still an issue, although there is no pending legislation.
