ACRL has selected a team of three curriculum designers/presenters to create professional development offerings to provide support for librarians as they incorporate the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education into their practice at all types of academic institutions.
After careful consideration of the large and outstanding applicant pool, the selection committee, with representatives from the ACRL Student Learning and Information Literacy Committee and the ACRL Framework Advisory Board, selected the following members for the new Framework Curriculum Designer/Presenter Team: Andrea Baer, Instructional Services Librarian and Assistant Professor, University of West Georgia; Brittney Johnson, Head of Library Instruction, St. Edward’s University; and Lindsay Matts-Benson, Instructional Designer, University of Minnesota.
“We are thrilled Andrea, Brittney, and Lindsay have accepted our invitation to develop this curriculum for the Framework,” said Framework Advisory Board Chair Donna Witek of the University of Scranton. “Their combined experience with using the Framework for both their own instruction and the professional development of their colleagues set them apart from a strong candidate pool for these roles. Their knowledge and experience complement each other as a team, bringing to the development of this new curriculum a combination of instructional design techniques, knowledge and practice of pedagogical theories, and on-the-ground engagement with the Framework in their own instructional work.”
The team will plan, develop, and deliver learning experiences for face-to-face and virtual learning contexts, and will work closely with the Framework Advisory Board to align the curriculum with professional development needs. The face-to-face workshops will be offered as licensed ‘roadshows,’ as with the existing Two Paths Converge: Designing Educational Opportunities on the Intersections of Scholarly Communication and Information Literacy; Building Your Research Data Management Toolkit: Integrating RDM into Your Liaison Work; Planning, Assessing, and Communicating Library Impact: Putting the Standards for Libraries in Higher Education into Action; and Scholarly Communication: From Understanding to Engagement workshops.
Online offerings will be part of ACRL’s regular e-Learning program, which includes multi-week asynchronous courses, topical webcasts, and other interactive formats. The first offerings are expected to be available by late spring 2017.
