Head, First-Year Services
The University of Texas at San Antonio Library is seeking an innovative,
collaborative, user-oriented librarian to provide leadership and
direction as Head of the First-Year Services Department. Reporting to
the Assistant Dean for Public Services, this position will establish a
department of 11 direct reports (2 librarians, 1 instructional designer,
and 8 paraprofessionals) with responsibility for first-year instruction;
the Information Commons; and development of online services that support
first-year student learning. This person will collaborate with campus
partners including The University’s Judith Gardner Writing Center and
Tomas Rivera Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction Services to develop
the Information Commons as a student-focused learning environment. The
incumbent will work collaboratively with other library departments
including Research Services Department and the Downtown Campus Library
and will lead efforts to design, implement and promote programs,
services, and events that are focused on first-year students. As a
member of the library management team, the Head of First-Year Services
will provide input into the strategic and operational planning
processes.
Qualifications: Required: ALA Accredited Master’s degree. Three
years of post-MLS professional library experience. Outstanding oral and
written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills. Preferred:
Experience with first-year services, development of web-based learning
environments, electronic instruction, or Information Commons. Advanced
degree in an academic discipline.

intellectual life of campus through active partnerships with the Writing
Center, Teaching and Learning Center and Tomas Rivera Center for Student
