How long have you been a member of ULS?
I have been a member since 2014 and have enjoyed serving on the ULS Membership Committee since 2016.
What or who inspires your work?
I think it is wise to seek inspiration widely. Most often, it is my colleagues who are always coming up with interesting ideas and problems that need exploration. But also, library administration and faculty who are exploring new or improved services that require concerted attention and creativity to discover and implement solutions. And of course, our students who are interacting with the library while developing fascinating research and scholarship.
What most excites you about academic librarianship?
The adaptations to traditional service models that are leading us to interact with university faculty and students in new ways. With a focus on how we contribute to our students’ success, we are experimenting with pilot projects and engaging students with research data and digital scholarship tools and methods earlier in their academic careers.
What exciting or interesting project are you working on right now?
Right now, we are in the planning phase of our Mellon Grant project called “Leveraging GLAM Assets in Research, Teaching, and Learning” and that is a very exciting project. The first faculty cohort is beginning to take shape as we dig deeper into scoping and planning what training and resources will be required for their projects. It is fascinating to work with gifted faculty in their academic disciplines along with my brilliant museum and library colleagues. Each project will create opportunities to advance scholarship, engage students, and build up our collaborative muscles.
What do you do for fun?
Besides the fun I experience at work, I enjoy cooking, going to live theater, and traveling with my partner. But I would be neglectful if I didn’t mention how much joy I get from my daily walks with my dear dog friend, Kissy.
