Financial Literacy Focus of ACRL President’s Program at 2014 ALA Annual Conference
Looking for ways to increase financial literacy on your campus or in your community? Join ACRL for our President’s Program at the 2014 ALA Annual Conference in Las Vegas. Titled “Financial Literacy at Your Library,” the program will feature noted Washington Post columnist and financial educator Michelle Singletary and Ferris State University President Dr. David Eisler.
The program, hosted by ACRL President Trevor A. Dawes, associate university librarian at Washington University in St. Louis, will take place from 10:30 a.m. – noon on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, room N255/257.
In conjunction with the program, the 2014 ACRL President’s Program Committee is interested in collecting information on financial literacy initiatives that take place on your college and university campuses. These initiatives could include programming, instruction within your curriculum or any other creative way the library has reached out to or partnered with the community to provide financial education. Submit your financial literacy best practice here.
More information about Dawes’ Financial Literacy Initiative can be found at the Financial Literacy Initiative website, or by contacting ACRL President’s Program Committee Co-Chairs Debbie Malone, library director at DeSales University, at firstname.lastname@example.org and Adi Redzic, executive director of the financial literacy think tank iOme Challenge, at email@example.com.
To learn more, read Redzic’s December 2013 College & Research Libraries News article “Financial Literacy: Why Librarians Need To Get Involved?,” which highlights the college student perspective on why it is vital for librarians to be involved in financial literacy education on campus.
