ACRL Standards for Distance Learning Library Services

As distance and online learning options are becoming more popular and more important, it is important that distant students receive the library support they need. To help provide library support for distant students and to help promote academic quality in distance learning programs, the ACRL Board of Directors recently approved Standards for Distance Learning Library Services.

Developed by ACRL’s Distance Learning Section (DLS), the standards provide guidance on library support for institutions with online, off-campus, or distance learning programs. Some important points include:

*Financial support for library resources for distant users.
*A librarian/administrator with specific responsibility for distance education.
*Equivalent access to library resources on and off campus.

For more information, refer to the standards directly on the ACRL Web site or to the DLS Web site for an overview of the standards.
