Volunteer for the New ACRL Task Force on Impactful Scholarship and Metrics
The ACRL Board of Directors, at its October 26, 2017, virtual meeting, approved the establishment of the Impactful Scholarship and Metrics Task Force regarding the evaluation of academic librarian scholarship. ACRL President Cheryl Middleton invites you to volunteer to serve on this newly created task force. If you wish to be considered for an appointment, please review the information below and complete the web form on the ACRL website by 5:00 p.m. Central on Tuesday, November 21, 2017.
Charge: To create a new ACRL framework that recommends effective practices regarding the evaluation of academic librarian scholarship that supports librarians in a variety of academic appointments, with differing scholarly expectations, while acknowledging and encouraging impactful scholarship venues within academic librarianship. The task force will gather input from the community, share a draft for feedback, and make revisions, following ACRL’s Guide to Policies and Procedures Chapter 14.5 Procedures for Preparation of New Standards, Guidelines, and Frameworks.

- Date draft framework is circulated for public feedback: ALA Midwinter 2019
- Date final draft is submitted to ACRL Standards Committee: ALA Annual Conference 2020

Task force members will have broad representation in the following areas: primary librarian responsibilities, academic status, size and type of institution, scholarly activity, and institution’s expectations for scholarship. They will also have an interest in promotion, tenure, and reappointment guidelines, metrics, impactful scholarship in academic librarianship and/or equitable scholarship evaluation. The deadline to volunteer for the ACRL Impactful Scholarship and Metrics Task Force is November 21! Note: Due to the timeline of this task force, the process is separate from the annual division-level and section appointments. Information on those appointments will be posted in December.
